Paris: Alphonse Lemerre, 1893. 1893 "Edition du Figaro." Per colophon, this copy is from the 30 November 1892 printing. NEAR FINE. A clean, unmarked and tightly bound copy. Rebound (~ mid-twentieth century) in three-quarter black morocco (spine and corners) and marbled paper over boards. Cover spine has 5 raised bands with gilt decorated panels and titles gilt-stamped on two maroon leather labels. Top page edge gilt. Top corner of half-title page torn and 1 leaf in book slightly protruding with minor edge wear, otherwise pages are fine - clean, no soiling, tears, chips or creases. Binding and hinges tight, intact and straight. Cover is clean and fresh, edges lightly rubbed, otherwise fine. Profusely illustrated by artists Pierre-Georges Jeanniot, Ernest Ange Duez and Felician Myrbach with black and white halftones throughout text, including several full page plates. There are also 4 color pages (chromolithographs) including the striking frontispiece depicting a brazen woman smoking a cigarette. In French. 6 x 9-1/4"; iv + 475 pages (including colophon).
