London: Hutchinson, 1960. First Edition. Hard Cover. Dust Jacket. First UK Edition. Publisher's black boards with gilt spine lettering. A near (or better) copy in like D/W with a tiny 6 mm imperceptible closed tear at the bottom right hand corner of the front panel adjacent to the front flap. The D/W is NOT price-clipped (as most copies seem to be) and is priced 15s net to the inside flap (as called for). Book Society Recommended. A lovely collector's copy and scarce in this condition. First book. The basis for the 1983 TV movie of the same name directed by Desmond Davis and starring Sam Neill, Maeve Germaine and Jill Doyle. Edna O'Brien also wrote the screenplay.
