Includes 36 Cree grammar lessons and an A-Z list of English-Cree and Cree-English vacabularies. Harry Ernest Hives [1901-1974], a Church of England Missionary spent time among the Plains Cree and Woodland Cree. He began his missionary work at Cumberland House, Lac-La-Ronge, Payton, and Battleford. Hives was "indebted...to the Indians at Stanley and Lac la Ronge for their patience and carefulness in giving the exact shades of meaning," which enabled him to formulate the rules upon which the Cree language is based. Hives later served as the Commisary for Indian Affairs to the Bishop of Saskatoon. Wear and fraying at spine ends. Creasing to covers.
