Westminster: Machell Stace, 1810. First edition. Leather. Good Only. 11.5" by 7.5" . Not Stated. An interesting look at the life of Oliver Cromwell from the year 1642 to his death in 1658. The first edition. In a half calf binding on marbled boards. Boards are detached. With five plates, one of which is folding. Collated complete. Not much is known of Cromwell's life up until he became a Member of Parliament in the 1630s, but his time in the spotlight was well documented. This biography looks at the sixteen years of his life in which he was in power. From the English Civil War, to the execution of Charles I, to his role as Lord Protector. Published anonymously although widely accredited to the English author and printseller, James Caufield. Oliver Cromwell is one of the most controversial and formidable figures in British history. He was intensely religious and political, being a Member of Parliament before rising to the status of a military commander in 1642, the year in which…
