About This Item
Paris: Christian Dior, 1975. Ink, watercolor and gouache on xerograph. Fabric swatch attached with staples. Sheet measures 12.5" x 9".

This original croquis from the designer Christian Dior features a dress from the Winter 1975/76 collection. This croquis was made from a xerograph of an original drawing, which was then hand-colored with ink, watercolor, and gouache. The design shows a knee-length light blue patterned dress with a tie detail at the scoop-neck collar, detailing on the cuffs, and a shawl over one shoulder. Swatches of the appropriate fabric, one featuring a floral design in light blue and the other in purple, are stapled to the sheet. These sketches were produced in a limited quantity and presented to potential clients in attendance at the Paris Couture shows held by Dior in the spring and fall of each year. This example is in good condition and makes a wonderful document for any lover of fashion.
