John Major, London.,1824. SECOND MAJOR EDITION. Illustrated with 14 copper engraved plates and several woodcuts throughout the text. Two small patches of browning affecting the top outer corner of ten leaves, otherwise a very good copy in fine nineteenth century binding by Thomson of Exeter, with binders ticket on front paste down. Full tan calf, raised bands, compartments fully gilt. Red title label, gilt. Boards with double blind ruled and one gilt ruled borders. Marbled endpapers. School prize plate on front paste down shows that this copy was given as a prize in January 1842. Previous owners name(dated 1881) and ink name stamp on blank endpapers. Front hinge neatly repaired. Some minor rubbing to edges but generally a very good copy in an attractive nineteenth century binding.:

Inscribed by Gill on the front free endpaper "Eric Gill for H. Davis, 22.3.28" A very good copy in original grey canvas spine, lettered in black, with red paper covered boards with black lettering and illustration to the front board. Some loss to the paper on the boards, affecting 7 letters of the address at the bottom. Spine with just a little darkening. Overall a very good copy. Uncommon inscribed by Gill. --Evan Gill. Portland, Maine:: Rebecca Goodale,, 2014.. Edition of 15. 8.5 x 6.5" closed; 5 leaves. Screen printed on a Gocco printer, hand-colored, and hand-cut. Fan book structure with tie closure at the handle/spine. In stiff green paper open-ended envelope. Signed and numbered by the artist. Each book varies slightly because of the handcoloring. Goodale continues her documentation of imperiled fauna with Maine's Alpine Marsh Violet. The viola palustris in Maine is "critically imperiled because of extreme rarity or vulnerability to extirpation."

SHORT STORY ANTHOLOGY. 242 pages. Maroon boards with gold titling and ornamentation. Good condition front paper paste-down label of a little girl wearing a red feather in her blue hat. Please see our photos. Used. Good/ No DJ. A solid copy with intact gutters. "Humphrey was one of the first great American women illustrators paving the way for Jessie Willcox Smith, Grace Drayton and the many other women illustrators of the early 20th century. Humphrey is also known for being film star HUMPHREY BOGART'S mother (and in fact she used her son as a model for many of her pictures)." QUITE RARE. A NICE FIND.

Gold Titling on spine is somewhat dimmed. Front Pastedown is complete and in nice condition. Twelve color plates (including frontis) . Please see our photos. Rare/scarce. A clean, solid copy. 8 X 6.

New York: Harper and Brothers 1899. (Hardcover) 46pp. Good to very good, no dust jacket. Pictorial cream cloth printed in five colors. Color illustrated endpapers and illustrated throughout in color. Printed on one side of the page and bi-folded for binding. The text block has been rebacked and skillfully remounted in the original covers, the first sheet before the half-title has been lost. The pages are bright and clean. The cover is reasonably bright and clean with the following faults: there are some small slits on the spine where the cloth has weakened around the edges of the colored areas because of the stamping process, also there is a small spot on the spine and a small paint stain on the back cover near the bottom corner. Illustrations by Walter Crane. (Juvenile).

New York: David McKay, 1919. A fine copy of the first edition in scarce dust wrapper with some soiling and wear. All of the first issue points except gilt titles on the cover. All other points match Nudelman A53. The pictorial pastedown on the front cover is most often found with scratches and other problems. This copy is exceptionally nice.

Newcastle: Emerson Charnely, and Baldwin, Cradock, and Joy, 1820 A good copy of the large paper 1st edition in contemporary half leather binding. This edition was printed on thicker high quality paper. With frontispiece portrait of Thomas Bewick, 4 portraits of Bewick by different engravers, and numerous engravings to illustrate the Fables. Contents: frontispiece; title page with small ink signature to top dated 1824; advertisement; Memoir; Catalogue; portraits; table of contents; select fables - pp1-332. The binding has gilt-lined raised bands to the spine and marbled boards. Page edges lightly marbled. The binding has wear to corners and the top and bottom of the spine but is in very good clean condition. There are some faded areas to the foredge marbling. The original endpapers are present. The preliminaries and the frontispiece are very spotty, and the frontispiece has a small repaired section in the gutter. The final page has some marking and the final blank and verso to rep are also very spotty.… Read More

LONDON : Hodder & Stoughton, 1908 A very good copy of the 1st trade edition with 40 tipped in colour plates by Edmund Dulac. In original green decorative cloth binding with gilt design on front board and spine. The binding is clean with bright gilt to the front board and spine. It has been professionally rebacked so is sound and tight. There is slight marking at the bottom edge of the front board and some very slightly paler areas on the back board. Corners with light wear. The original green endpapers are present with an inscription dated Xmas 1908 to the fep. There is some light foxing to the half title. Contents in very good condition being very clean with some light toning to page edges. The plate at p11 has a small corner crease and the tissue guard to the plate at p126 is creased.
