Original brown cloth, gilt titling to the front board and the spine. Some chafing of the joints, inner hinges cracked (and repaired), preliminary page foxed. Only a good minus copy overall, but suitable as a reading, working or reference copy.

Hardcover. hardback, large 8vo, viii,871pp, engraved half-title but no frontispiec, 2 plates, several plans, slight foxing, text clean and tight, marbled boards and half-lether binding, worn, several tears to spine ends and edges; overall Good condition .

London: Longmans, Green, Reader and Dyer, 1868. Thick hardcover with no jacket. "Yours faithfully, John Timbs" inked below portrait on frontispiece - possibly a facsimile. Boards lightly scored in places with one or two small stains and a larger instance in middle of front. Leading corners very frayed and worn. Minor wear on edges. Spine is faded, with superficial creases down length and bumps and wear on head and foot. Page block yellowed and uneven. Binding has been reinforced at front and back, with adhesive strips visible. Small sticker on front pastedown; penned writing on FEP. Binding visible on next few pages as well as some near middle within; slightly detached at top through abstract and preface pages, with evidence of tape. Frontispiece and protective tissue foxed. First few pages of the main body are damaged at leading edge but no text obscured.
