About This Item

New York: Bonanza Books, 1962. First edition. Hardcover. Very Good/very good. Clean, tight 8vo, 275pp. Very liight shelf wear. Salisbury and his wife were mother, father, teachers, store supervisors, bookkeepers and school principal to the Thlinget Indians in a village called Klawock on the west coast of Prince of Wales Island They laughed over the contradictions as the Indians went to a Christian church on Sunday and the next week hunted witches or as they accepted medication from the white nurse then fled to the Shaman for a cure. He listened to and retells some the old legends. An excellent comparison between the primitive and the more modern. Many photos.
