Folio (15-1/4" x 9-1/2"). Recent period-style quarter calf over marbled boards, raised bands and lettering piece to spine, endpapers renewed. Title page printed in red and black, copperplate text vignette in preface, large copperplate vignette to head of dedication, large woodcut vignettes at the beginnings of each section. Very light browning to text, somewhat heavier in places, foxing, stains and edgewear to a few leaves, light soiling and edgewear to title page, internally clean. $500. * Only edition, 1 of 2 issues from 1730. With a subscriber list. One of the great achievements of eighteenth-century English legal philology, this is a critical edition of Howel's Cyfraith Hywel and other early compilations of Welsh civil and ecclesiastical law. The work concludes with a glossary of Welsh legal terms by Wotton. Founded in 1983, The Lawbook Exchange, Ltd. is devoted to all aspects of law and its history. It has two main components. The Antiquarian Book Department offers a wide range of Continental, British, and American books, manuscripts, and ephemera from the medieval era through the twentieth century. The Publications Department offers reprints of over 1,000 landmark or otherwise interesting works, many with newly commissioned introductions, and several original publications. The Lawbook Exchange also offers appraisals and provides assistance with collection development. Originally a company that serviced law firms exclusively, it now serves thousands of lawyers,scholars, and institutions worldwide.
