Rubbing, tape residue on front flyleaf. Occasional spotting and offsetting. <br> Cesnola fought on the Union side in the American Civil War, achieving the rank of Colonel, and was appointed U.S. Consul to Cyprus a few months after his honorable discharge in the Fall of 1864. While in Cyprus he amassed a large collection of antiquities, many of which were purchased by the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
