Harper & Brothers, 1853. Hardcover bound in brown cloth with impressed design, gilt title on the spine, 195 pages followed by listing of other books by the publisher. There is no information on the copyright page which is not unusual for books from this period (1853) Binding shows spots of light wear along the edges with very light scuffing on the panels, title on the spine is a bit faded but easy to read, adhesive residue and part of an address (Box 28 stamped on the front paste down, part of a previous owner's signature and some spotty foxing/discoloration on the front free end paper - the discoloration/foxing shows on the rear end papers as well. Text is unmarked but the paper is age toned and show light spotty discoloration. Images available. USPS tracking used on all domestic shipments. . No Edition Stated. Hardcover. Good/No Dust Jacket.

John Cochrane, traveler, was a nephew of Sir Alexander Cochrane [q. v.] and grandson of the eighth Earl of Dundonald. Having entered the royal navy when ten years old, he served, chiefly in West and East Indian waters, until the peace of 1814. He then made a tour on foot through France, Spain, and Portugal. Returning to England in 1820 he offered his services to the admiralty for the exploration of the Niger, but receiving an unfavorable answer, left England with the intention of making the tour of the world by way of Russia, Siberia, and North America. John Cochrane, traveler, was a nephew of Sir Alexander Cochrane [q. v.] and grandson of the eighth Earl of Dundonald. Having entered the royal navy when ten years old, he served, chiefly in West and East Indian waters, until the peace of 1814. He then made a tour on foot through France, Spain, and Portugal. Returning to England in 1820 he offered his services to the admiralty for the exploration of the Niger, but receiving an unfavorable answer, left England with the intention of making the tour of the world by way of Russia, Siberia, and North America. He travelled by Dieppe, Paris, and Berlin to St. Petersburg, most of the way on foot for the sake of economy.
