About This Item
New Britain, CT: Art Press, 1971. Massmann, Robert E.. (6)pp., frenchfold. One of 50 copies printed at the Art Press and signed by the proprietor, Robert E. Massmann. Several keepsakes in one, this tribute to Hunter includes a eulogy and a reproduction of a letter from Harrison Elliot, both held in pockets on the inside covers. The main text is a description by Massmann about the contents of the Keepsake and is bound in stiff wrappers with a printed label depicting Hunter's Mountain House on the front cover. The paper for the cover is from the last lot made at Hunter's Lime Rock Mill. The eulogy, bound in red, was written and presented by Hugo Alpers for the Rowfant Club in 1967; the cover and endpapers of this small book are handmade by Hunter (1 by 2 1/4). The enclosed letter is a reproduction of one written by Harrison Elliot on paper which he made from one of Hunter's shirts (3 5/16 by 7 1/8, folded). A sample of the actual paper and of the shirt from which it was made are mounted into the main book as frontispiece. Entire ensemble housed in stiff paper sleeve with same printed label of the Mountain House on the front cover. Fine. (Bradbury, p. 240). (2 1/2 by 1 13/16; 64x46mm).
