Hardcover. Foreword by Kermit Roosevelt. Navy cloth with titles stamped in gilt on front boards and spine. Photographically illustrated endpapers. xvi, 322 pp. Folding map of South America at rear. Many photos from the author's trips on various expeditions to Central and South America and Asia. Cherrie was one of the few larger-than-life adventurers that could keep pace with Theodore Roosevelt and indeed, was part of the famous 1913-14 Rondon-Roosevelt Expedition in Brazil to map the River of Doubt. Cherrie was born in Iowa in 1865, worked in textile mills at age 12, worked his way through a college degree in mechanical engineering, worked at an electric light plant, and then traveled and collected natural history specimens, from insects to big game, for various museums for the remainder of his long life. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
