Navy leatherette boards, gilt lettering and decoration to spine and front board. Pictorial endpapers. XVI, 17-384 pp. Bookplate of C.B. Farrar to front pastedown. Dust jacket is rubbed to joints and extremities, short tear to head of front joint and top edge of front cover (repaired with tape), soiling to rear. In this volume, Dr. Robert M. Engberg paints the background against which man is playing his part in the later days of civilization. This background is made up of the cultural contributions of many peoples far from us in distance and time: the Ancient Egyptians, Babylonians, Syrians, Persians, the peoples of the Fertile Crescent, and after them and learning from them, the early inhabitants of Crete, Greece, and Rome.
