Circa 1900. MISSING THREE VOLUMES. Stated Number 664 of 1,000 copies for England and America of Edition De Luxe. Printed by The Grolier Society (London). No printed copyright or date(s) of publication. Bookset centralizes on the biographies of 18th Century Englishmen and Women. Color frontispieces and black and white illustrations within the volumes.
Three quarter deep red leather hardcovers with gilt edging are worn and/or worn-through at the corners and spine heads and tails. Volumes also show minor wear at the hinges and faint smudges on the front and back covers. Textblocks have gilt-top edges, which are faded and spotted. Red bookmarkers are creased, frayed, and/or broken at the ends. Bookmarkers have also left tanning marks or stains on the pages. There are some pages that have tanned the adjacent page, particularly the frontispiece onto the tissue paper. No writing or markings. The set is incomplete and missing three volumes, which are Colley Cibber I, Horace Walpole, and Fanny Burney. Overall, it is in Good Plus (G+) condition and includes the following twelve titles:
