About This Item

Northampton, MA: Gehenna Press, 1964. Cornell, Thomas. Quarto. 84pp + 21 inserted plates. One of 300 copies. Signed by Cornell twice at the colophon and under each illustration, and by Leonard Baskin, who designed the book. The plates, printed on blue paper, bear twenty-one different portraits of the major players in Babeuf's case. Babeuf, who had been arrested for his role in the Consipracy of Equals during the French Revolution, used his defense to continue to advocate for the abolition of private property and radical democracy. Sheets unbound, housed in blue morocco chemise with gilt spine titling, within clamshell box. Scarce wear to exterior of box, else fine.
