Berkeley, California: University of California. Near Fine with no dust jacket. 1982. Flexible covers. Scattered, pencil check marks and an occasional penciled note in the text. ; The book is an oral history transcript of tape recorded interviews with 5 Bay Area fine bookbinders: Lee Wollenberg, Stell Patri, Duncan Olmstead, Stephan Gale Herrick, and Barbara Fallon Hiller. Each interview was held question-and-answer style and these preeminent bookbinders expounded on their training, teachers and mentors; careers as binders and restorers; the art and the craft; how each brings out the best in a book through binding; and their opinions of other bookbinders. These people spoke freely and frankly about their work and the craft. Being unedited, the text is chatty, immediate, and quite personal. Although binding methods are discussed, none of it is a how-to about bookbinding. Introduction by Deborah M. Evetts, Book Conservator, The Pierpont Morgan Library. New York: G.P. Putnam's Sons / The Knickerbocker Press, 1927. Half-Leather. Very Good/No Jacket. Corners a bit rubbed, boards faintly soiled, ink date and owner bookplate of Robert N. Cherry on front flyleaf. 1927 Half-Leather. iv, 325 pp. 8vo. No binder's ticket, but appears to be a contemporary custom rebinding: blue leather spine and corners over blue cloth, gilt titles and rules, top edge gilt, new end sheets. "The Autobiography of Benjamin Franklin is the traditional name for the unfinished record of his own life written by Benjamin Franklin from 1771 to 1790; however, Franklin himself appears to have called the work his Memoirs. Although it had a tortuous publication history after Franklin's death, this work has become one of the most famous and influential examples of an autobiography ever written. Franklin's account of his life is divided into four parts, reflecting the different periods at which he wrote them.
