This is a much more formally printed account of Louis XIV's flight to Varennes, with an engraved frontispiece showing his carriages halted by a mass of soldiers. One of a collection of 40 Royalist and counter-revolutionary tracts of the French Revolution. Stock#OB1042-14. Very Good in marbled paper wrappers.

Binding in full leather with five raised bands on the spine. Cover edges and corners are worn. The hinges are broken but the cords are holding the covers well. Former owner's bookplate on front pastedown: "William Charles De Meudon Earl Fitzwilliam." Also, inked letters at top left of pastedown: B: 5: 51 (marked through) E. VI. 5. No title on spine. Gently effaced library ownershp stamps on bottom title page and first text page. Paper clean and unfoxed. 147 pages followed by a 2-page index, and an appendix of 30 pages plus 12 plates illustrating gold coins of the kings of England.

It has green fabric covered boards, there are some wear spots on these. Gilt title lettering, in good+ condition. Spine excellent condition; a nice clean and attractive book. Easy to carry in purse or pocket. Great for collectors and antique book lovers.
