Description:
1694 1st ed Junius Pictura Veterum Neoclassical Art Architecture HUGE FOLIO

Franciscus Junius was a 17th-century philologist known for his radical views which helped establish the neoclassical movement in art. These ideas were collected and published under the title 'De Pictura Veterum', a large work divided into several sections of classical texts on the arts which included Junius's own commentary. It also features biographical sketches of important artists of antiquity along portfolio lists of their works.

This work often became the focal point of argument and discussion on the arts, whether they be written or visual, the value of human life, and the supremacy of the types of arts. Without a doubt this work is considered one of the cornerstones of Neoclassical movement.

1717 Life of Saint Bruno Eustache le SUEUR Painting Art HUGE FOLIO Engravings
Eustache le Sueur was a well-known 17th-century French artist known for his paintings of saints and church fathers. His most famous works was his series of paintings on the life of Saint Bruno aptly titled 'La Vie de St. Bruno'. After Sueur completed these paintings, they were sold to Louis XVI and were later placed in the Louvre where they still reside today.
These enormous, elephant-folio sized engravings of 'St. Bruno' were engraved by Francois Chauveau who is known to be one of the most desirable engravers for collectors.

Description:
1730 1st ed Illustrated FOLIO Bible Overton EXQUISITE ART Theatrum PassionisJohn and Henry Overton were English print-sellers at the beginning of the 18th-century. Little is known of their lives, particularly John. However, the engravings that are known to exist, printed by Henry, are considered exceedingly rare and desirable works of art.'Theatrum Passionis' is an early 18th-century collection of engravings published by Overton, each of which depicts the life of Jesus and notable New Testament stories involving Jesus. In addition to the engravings, this work is a complete New Testament Bible, with annotations of each book.Curiously, this work is a complete oddity. Research yields no clues to its origins, nor is it in any notable references. A remarkable, unique piece with impressive illustrations!Item number: #5479 Price: $950OVERTON, John & Henry.Theatrum passionis or figures of the life and death of our Lord and Saviour Jesus ChristLondon: printed collered and sold by H. The pages are white, crisp and clear of any markings. "This is a history of the visual arts produced in the geographical area that now constitutes the United States. Such a book is difficult to title. A History of United States Art sounds awkward and logically might even be construed to exclude the arts of the colonial period. Thus, with apologies to our northern and southern neighbors, I use the title A History of American Art, knowing full well that the terms America and the United States are not synonymous...." - Preface from A History of American Art
