Duckworth, London, 1934. First Edition. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. Signed. 311 pages (complete). Inscribed by McWilliams: "To Eric Attwell - with the compliments of the Author! 5/2/55". Eric Attwell was a fellow Port Elizabethan. In his salad days he and his brother, Jack cycled across Africa and Europe to England in 1933. He wrote a now legendary account of this trip, "The Road to London". In his middle years (and after this inscription) Attwell, a member of Alan Paton's Liberal Party, was banned by the paranoidal John Vorster. A much owned copy. The boards are scuffed, worn, handled all about. They are comfortable and secure. The contents are amiably aged. They have freckles of foxing throughout. The page edges have handling wear. Nonetheless, the book is mild-mannered, genial, clean, clear, contented, sound, engaging, encouraging, pleasingly comfortable. fk
