Wine Spectator, in a 2001 obituary, wrote of the author, "Harry Waugh, one of the most revered and influential members in the British wine trade, died Nov. 28. He was 97. As a wine seller, Waugh was appreciated for his charm and enthusiasm -- as a wine lover, he was especially noted for his wit and wisdom. Waugh's reputation for sagacity led to several quotable moments, and his sayings soon became common wine lore. In one story, a young fan approached Waugh and asked him if he had ever confused a Burgundy with a Bordeaux. Waugh immediately responded, 'not since lunch.'
