New York: Tanam Press, 1982. First Edition, First Printing, so stated. Softcover. Very Good +. 1 vol. (179 p.) : ill. ; 21 cm. Softcover. Photo illustrated glossy wraps. Book Condition: Small closed tear to top edge of front panel, mild wear to extremities else fine. True first edition softcover published simultaneously with Tanam Press hardcover format. Not to be confused with later, far more common 1999 edition published by Three Women Press. A sharp copy of a scarce first. From Wikipedia: "Considered to be Cha's magnum opus, the book, a genre-bending novel, focuses on several women: the Korean revolutionary Yu Guan Soon, Joan of Arc, Saint Thérèse of Lisieux, Demeter and Persephone, Cha's mother Hyun Soon Huo, and Cha herself. ... The book was first published in 1982, the year Cha was murdered. The book was out of print for a while, but due in part to the publication of an edited collection on Cha's novel, Writing Self, Writing Nation (1994), Cha's work began to receive critical attention. In 1997, with the resurgence of Asian American studies and Third-wave feminism, the book was brought back into print by Norma Alarcón and Third Woman Press.

NY: Pantheon. Very Good in Good dust jacket; Top corners bumped, jacket grubby and has . several chips, one small water spot to jacket at center of spine.. [1951]. First American Edition. Hardcover. Yellow boards with title stamped in various fonts in black on front. Black cloth spine with title stamped in yellow. A comic classic of modern Irish literature, first published in England in 1939. Though Graham Greene championed the novel (his Pantheon front jacket blurb trumpets "A book in a thousand...in the line of Ulysses and Tristram Shandy." ) , and later book blurbs quote Dylan Thomas' mini-book review: "This is just the book to give your sister if she's a loud, dirty, boozy girl." ) , it was initially not a hot seller. All of the unsold first edition copies were destroyed during World War II bombings. At Swim-Two-Birds appears on Time Magazine's All-Time 100 Novels list, The Modern Library Reader's List of 100 best novels, and The Guardian's list of…

Straight, tight and clean with no wear or markings in bright, pictorial card covers, no dustjacket as issued. The pieces in this collection, written between 1956 and 1961 and including short fiction, a radio play, and a stunning early novel, offer startling insights into Cohens imagination and creative process.
