92 - London - Thomas Richards, 1870 Book. Very Good. Hardcover. Ten volumes with gilt lettering and decoration. Very scarce. Not available anywhere else for sale, and held only at four institutions - The Imperial College copy is defective. The Dictionary of Architecture is complete in Eight Volumes. A comprehensive Dictionary of Architecture from Aachen, the German name for Aix-La-Chappelleto Ernest Friedrich Zwirner, (b. 1802) whosucceeded Ahlert as the architect at Cologne cathedral. There are two volumes (I: A-C and II: D-H) of illustrations. Condition: The bindings are firm with the boards securely attached. There is some wear to the extremities includingsome fading to the spine and somequite noticeablerubbing (as often the case with morocco leather). Internally the pages are generally clean and bright, although there is some spotting to the illustrated volumes, mostly along the margins due to the paper used (the British library copy is not as clean as this copy!). A couple of the black and white diagramshave been hand-coloured as called for. These volumeswere at one time inHove Free Public Library and contain ornate period bookplates and stamps and gilt spine numbers though not too obtrusive and date from the same period as the book. Each plate in the illustrated volumes is stamped on the back. The overallcondition of these volumesis good..
