About This Item

Frankfurt am Main, 1954. Neudold, M. K.. Octavo. Unpaginated. Entirely manuscript, with eight miniature paintings in a delightful array of colors, all with flourished backgrounds and borders by M. K. Neudold. Neudold's exacting hand here renders the well-known verses of the Rubaiyat into German, extending to some Arabic lines facing the title page and appearing on some of the paintings. These, brightly and romantically executed, punctuate the text at careful moments, carrying its literary and visual charm across the work. Neudold left his mark in unique manuscript works similar to this, taking medieval and early modern texts and rendering them anew in a balance of classical style and modern artistry. Bound in vellum lushly painted on both covers and on spine. Fine, with protective dust wrapper.
