About This Item

1953 Thames and Hudson first edition. Uncommon as a true first.

The author was an well known avant-garde artist and filmmaker. Her career took a new direction in the late 1940's when she went to Haiti with the intent of making an ethnographic film. The book is a record of her experiences in Haiti, and with Haitian religious culture.

Condition of the book is Good. The binding is straight and sound. Inside pages are complete and unmarked. The main condition issues are:

1) Discoloration to the front board panel (see listing photos). The interior of the book is not affected.

2) A prior owner's name in ink on the front free endpaper

Condition of the dust jacket is Very Good. The DJ is complete, not price clipped. It shows moderate shelf wear. The DJ is protected in a new mylar cover.
