First American edition, first printing, with "First Published September 1958" stated on the copyright page with no second or later printings mentioned, first-issue full red-cloth binding with no topstain on the top edge, white endpapers, and NO circular Book-of-the-Month-Club impression on the rear board (original Book-of-the-Month-Club editions have the same appearance as the first edition except for the circular impression and the vast majority of "first printings" listed online by booksellers are actually book-club editions). 559 text pages with 558 numbered. First-issue dust jacket with the publisher's original $5.00 price printed on the front flap. VERY GOOD + book in NEAR FINE dust jacket. Book has two readily noticeable small liquid stains on the rear board and several small faint stains scattered across both boards and spine, slight wear at top spine end, a light bump at the bottom edge of the front gutter and a hint of a bump to the tip of the lower front corner. Otherwise, bright and unworn with no sunning. Tight and square, with strong, sound hinges with no cracking. Spotless outer page edges. Nearly flawless interior except for a light vertical crease down the length of the front endpaper through the Contents page and faint creasing of the top corners of the last few text pages. Otherwise pages are bright, clean and unmarked. No previous owner signature. Dust jacket is Fine except for a light diagonal crease at top corner of front flap, touches of very slight wear to the edges and slight sun-toning to the spine.
