About This Item

Philadelphia, PA, U.S.A.: Temple University Press, 1989. Hard Cover. Near Fine/Very Good. This is the first empirical study of the actual process of attempting to translate into reality the concept of equal pay for work of equal value; it documents a large project undertaken by the state of Oregon to evaluate 35,000 jobs of state employees, and to identity and remedy gender-based pay inequities; it details both the technical and political processes, showing how the technical was always political, how initial defeat was turned into partial victory by labor union women and women's movement activists; the author, a sociologist at the University of Oregon, was a member of the legistative task force responsible for implementing the legislation requiring a pay equity study (black cloth with gold lettering, black & white dust jacket has two small edge tears; otherwise a bright, clean, tight copfy)
