Pevsner's standard manual on the buildings of Cambridgeshire omits all mention of the county's dovecots, while Cooke's scarce 'Book of Dovecots' (1920) omits all mention of Cambridgeshire. Neatly filling this gap. the present study is a systematic record of seventy-nine surviving dovehouses throughout Cambridgeshire, together with a melancholy preface listing others recently demolished. Peter Jeevar has specialised in detailed historic drawings of rural Cambridgeshire, with particular reference to dovecots, mills, barns and churches. This book is the result of visits to all known dovecots in the county, here recorded in pencil drawings, photographs, and notes on architectural elements, the buildings' history and present use, national grid reference, and current condition.
