New York: Walker and Company, 1969. Fine in near fine jacket.. Signed first hardcover edition of the first book in the Dragonriders of Pern series, first published as a paperback original in 1968. Fearing an attack by their old enemy, the Thread, the Dragonmen search for a woman to lead them, armed with a telepathic connection to a queen dragon. After the warm reception of two novellas in her new Pern universe published in the science fiction magazine ANALOG, DRAGONRIDER and WEYR SEARCH, McCaffrey combined them with further material to publish this, the first of her nearly two dozen novels in the series. The two novellas won the Hugo and Nebula Awards, respectively, making McCaffrey the first woman to receive either award. A lovely copy. 8.5'' x 5.75''. Original yellow paper boards, spine lettered in black. In original unclipped ($4.95) pictorial jacket printed in brown and black. Yellow topstain, fore-edge machine deckle. x, 309, [1] pages. Signed on the title page in ink by McCaffrey. Light toning to top edge of dust jacket. Clean and bright.

Synopsis

Dragonflight is the first book in the long-running Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey. The first segment of Dragonflight was a 1968 Hugo award–winning novella (called Weyr Search) prior to publication of the entire book. The second segment (called Dragonrider) received a Nebula Award in 1968.
