About This Item

London : John C. Nimmo, 1892. Cloth. Good. 9" by 6". None. A limited edition, two-volume set of The Dramatic Works of George Farquhar. Including a biography of Farquhar by Alex Charles Ewald, the volumes contain some of the Irish dramatist's best known work, including The Recruiting Officer and The Beaux-Strategem. The former play was later adapted by Bertold Brecht, who set his play (Pauken und Trompteen) in America during its Civil War, thus cementing Farquhar's reputation further. Part of a limited printing of 520 in England and America, this is number 253. In cloth binding with gilt detailing. Externally reasonably smart, there are some markings to the boards and backstrips, as well as wear to the extremities, joints and backstrips. The hinges are also somewhat tender. Internally, the pages are firmly bound and are generally bright and clean throughout. Good
