Ballardâs mesmerizing and ferociously prescient The Drowned World imagines a terrifying future in which solar radiation and global warming has melted the ice caps, and Triassic-era jungles have overrun a submerged and tropical London. Description:
Garden City: Doubleday, 1965. First edition thus. Hardcover. Near Fine/very good. First collected edition of these two novels, and the first US hardback edition of either of them. From the time when Ballard was still a secret known mostly to science fiction fans. Both the trade and the book club editions on this book are moderately scarce -- the trade scarcer and more desirable, of course. Clipped dustjacket with several closed tears, the longest about 5cm at the head of the spine; now in a protector to prevent further damage. The book is clean, with slight flaking of the gold on the spine title. A difficult title to find for the Ballard completist.
