About This Item

New York: Henry Holt and Company, 1988. First edition (stated). Fine in about-fine jacket.. Signed first printing of this Kinsey Millhone mystery, in which the detective is framed and must unravel the layers of fabricated evidence against her. In this installment, the mystery takes on a BIG SLEEP undertone while Millhone navigates the agendas of various people in a rich family, whose drama becomes hers when she is framed as part of the investigation. Readers also meet Millhone's second husband, and learn firsthand why he is husband no longer. As usual for this series, class elements play a role in the unfolding events, complicating Millhone's ability to exonerate herself. A typically great Alphabet Series entry. 8'' x 5.25''. Original quarter black cloth, grey paper boards. In original unclipped ($15.95) color pictorial dust jacket designed by Abby Kagan. [10], 227, [1] pages. Signed by Grafton in black felt pen on title page. Very slight crinkling to front panel of jacket, with faint offsetting from cloth.
