About This Item

London: National Portrait Gallery Publications, 1988. 248 pp. Oversized softcover. Lightly rubbed on the corners with a flat uncreased spine; no interior markings. Centre painting on the front cover by Augustus John. The First World War had a devastating effect on the lives of many young Britons who survived its slaughter but few emerged from it to find their lives transformed in such an extraordinary way as did T. E. Lawrence. This book is a celebration of his life, packed with photographs, drawings and full-colour paintings, all of which relate to that life. The film about Lawrence was made in 1962, directed by David Lean and starring Peter O'Toole as Lawrence, along with Omar Sharif, Alex Guinness, Anthony Quinn, Jack Hawkins, Jose Ferrer, Anthony Quayle, Claude Rains, Arthur Kennedy, and a host of others, including George Plimpton as an uncredited Bedouin and David Lean himself as an uncredited motorcycle rider.. First Printing - First Thus. Soft Cover. Near Fine. Illus. by Augustus John;. 4to.
