Limited Edition. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. Original red cloth with slight edge wear along the bottom and at the top of the spine. As new inside, with fine illustrations and high quality paper with deckle edges. This is an odd volume, an imaginary dinner in London in 1778, with historically accurate conversation by those present , including James Boswell, about the events in Boston, where Governor Percy was doing his best against the American "Provincials". Hugh Percy was Duke of Northumberland (1742- 1817). Number 440 of the limited edition of only 550..

Provenance: from the estate of Ian Robertson, former Auctioneer, Antiquarian collector, Mayor and Honorary Alderman of Alnwick The title refers to Hugh, Earl Percy (born 1742) son of Sir Hugh and Lady Elizabeth Smithson. Sir Hugh was created Duke of Northumberland in1766. James Smithson, Sir Hugh's son was to become founder of the Smithsonian Institue in Washington. .

Limited to 550 copies.The present copy is number 290. 46pp. illustrated, The author published in 1907 a book entitled Earl Percy's Dinner-Table, an imaginary dinner given by his Lordship in Boston in 1775. The present work is an actual dinner given in London by General Paoli, the Corsican patriot and refugee, in honor of Earl Percy. The reader will note that this dinner was of peculiar interest to Mr. Boswell, who at the time was making his home with General Paoli in London.Bound in red cloth, paper spine label. A very nice copy with just a bit of bubbling to cloth.
