International Scientific Series Vol. LVI. Map is Fine. Book is Very Good in publisher's decorative red cloth, top dusty, 1/2" chip to cloth at head of spine, the contemporary armorial bookplate of Charles Fry, with motto "Fidelitas". RARE in either the 1st or 2nd edition. John Milne, (1850-1913), British geologist, engineer, and seismologist, was the developer of the first international network for seismological data, and created what may be considered the world’s first modern seismograph. He spent 20 years residing in Japan, taking part in field investigations studying Japan's volcanoes. By the end of that period he came to the conclusion that seismic activity was not related to volcanic activity, in contradiction to popular belief and common theory. . First Edition.
