Theodore Sturgeon (1918-1985), prolific short story writer, frequently explored gender issues in his fiction. Venus Plus X recounts the arrival of Charlie Johns in a society of hermaphrodites. In the postscript, Sturgeon writes, "It was my aim in writing EDEN AGAIN a) to write a decent book b) about sex.".
