Thomas Nelson & Sons, Edinburgh, 1960. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Very Good Condition/Good. Illustrator: Robert Hodgson. 84 pages. Illustrated endpapers, showing various scenes of theatrical life in the 1800s. Illustrated frontispiece by Robert Hodgson. The text is illustrated, again by Robert Hodgson, with both black-and-white and coloured illustrations from Edmund Kean's life. Brown coloured boards with gilt writing on the front panel and spine. Bumping to the head and to the heel of the spine and scuffing to the book corners. Shelfwear to the lower edges and there are dust marks and slight foxing marks to the paper edges. Faint tanning to the internal pages. Illustrated dustwrapper [ wraparound ), showing Edmund Kean upon the stage, with purple writing on the front panel and purple and black on the spine. The dustwrapper is rubbed, faded and quite grubby. Rubbing and chipping, with loss, to the dustwrapper corners, the top corner of the front panel being worse than the others. The dustwrapper background has become somewhat scuffed and rubbed. There is a 1.25 " tear along the front top spine gutter edge. Some foxing to the verso of the dustwrapper. A childs biography of one the 19th century's greatest actors -- Edmund Kean. This is the first UK edition. Size: 4to 9¾" - 12" tall. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
