FIRST SEPARATE EDITION limited to 500 numbered copies on Zerkall mould-made paper; pp.(4)10(4); wood-engraved Press device on colophon leaf; fine in decorated wrapper. Eliot's sole experiment in prose fiction was first printed in The Little Review of May & September, 1917. Influenced by Flaubert's 'Bouvard et Pécuchet', the work's protagonists evidently depict himself: 'a sceptic, with a taste for mysticism', and Ezra Pound: 'a materialist with a leaning towards scepticism'. 'Mr Elyump allus threateded AXshun if anybuddy reprinted Eeldrop but praps he wunt never find out yu dunnit.' Ezra Pound.28
