EIGHT ORIGINAL ILLUSTRATIONS FROM "THE BABY'S ANIMAL BOOK" INCLUDING THE COVER ILLUSTRATION and a Copy of the Book.

by Rowlandson, G. D. [George Derville]

Condition: Very Good

London: Frederick Warne & Co. Ltd, 1925. A fine collection of eight original full colour illustrations by G. D. Rowlandson that appeared in Warne's "Baby Animal Book" (in Warne's 'Popular Picture Books Series'). The book and illustrations are not dated but Copac give 1925 as the publication date. The illustrations include the cover design (with attached but separate typography), White Persian Cat; Turkey and Geese; Cow and Calf; Shetland Ponies; Rabbits and Parrots. A copy of the original book is also included. The illustrations are in watercolour on thick card; all are signed G. D. Rowlandson or initialed G. D. R. The dimensions are approx. 135 x 230mm; the cover illustration is larger format measuring 260 x 300mm; each has a contemporary brown paper protector. All are in very good condition. (The book is a little worn and rubbed to edges) There is a short marginal tear to the cover illustration which just touches the images, and some marginal pencil printing notes. An outstanding collection of original and decorative animal illustrations by an important artist: George Derville Rowlandson (1861-1928) was a British artist best known for his iconic hunting scenes and animal studies, as here. He was born in India in 1861 and studied art in Gloucester, Westminster and Paris. He worked in Bedford Park. (Note that three of the illustrations that appear in the book are not included in this collection). First Edition. Hard Cover. Very Good. 4to. Fine Art Print.
