Philadelphia: John W. Moore, 1845. Hardcover. Very Good. R. S. Gilbert. This edition is the first with R. S. Gilbert engravings. Ownership and presentation plate of The Master's Library presented by the Family of Edward Swift Buckley, Sr. Buckley, for many years, figured as a prominent representative of the iron industry of Pennsylvania. He was director of the Philadelphia National Bank and of the Lehigh Coal Navigation Company. The engraver of this volume (Gilbert) was, for a time in the early 19th century, considered the best wood engraver in the US. Brown cloth with blind-stamped boards. Gold lettering and design on front cover. Gift inscription to "Mrs. M. S. Buckley from her daughter Harriet, 1848." All page edges gilt. vi, xxxii, 33 illustrations. Head of spine chipped. Ex-library stamps inside covers. Full refund if not satisfied.
