About This Item

Minneapolis, MN, U.S.A.: University of Minnesota Press, 1987. This book addresses an important omission in literary theory: the absence of a theory of prose; the authors show that this absence is the result of a poetics-oriented conception of literary study which, from Aristotle onward, has presented verse as an elaborated form of prose, so that prose is taken for granted and treated as natural or artless; as opposed to verse which is seen as an artifice that has to be analyzed and described (black cover with white lettering has slight shelf and edge wear; otherwise a bright, clean tight copy). Trade Paperback. Very Good.
