An historical treatment of the phenomenon of "Enthusiasm" in Christianity, beginning with Paul's letter to the Corinthians and walking through Church history into the modern era. Special attention is given to the 17th and 18th centuries. "Enthusiasm" here is a traditional word for zealous Christians who seek to separate themselves from worldly Christians or who otherwise seek greater levels of devotion.
