About This Item
New York: Lavater--Dorette, 1928. Limited Edition. Quarto. 304pp. No. 5 of 375 DeLux Copies bound in rich red morocco in a large paper edition. The author became famous for suing Eugene O'Neill for allegedly copying her The temple of Palllas-Athene in his Strange Interlude (1928). Although her charges proved to be without merit, O'Neill and his publishers were left with enormous legal fees as she disappeared presumably to France just before the outbreak of the Second World War. Her fame largely came in France as a result of his work for the Epic of Verdun and Ballas honors the French Iron Division. She sent a copy fo Marshal Petian who placed one in the Verdun Memorial Monument with great appreciation. Beautifully bound in full red crushed morocco elaborately decorated in gilt, raised bands with gilt lettering and all other compartments fully gilt decorated, red silk doublures trimmed in morocco and decorated in gilt, front silk end leaf pictorially stamped in gilt depicting the bust of a woman with signature below.Top edge gilt, red ribbon marker, only light wear to corners. A lovely copy.
