Paris: Antonium Cellier, 1680. Book. good+. Hardback. First Thus. 4to - over 9¾" - 12" tall. Full vellum with gilt decoration, spine with black and red labels, 5 raised bands, some wear to hinges. In two parts: Eprigrammitum libros XV [794pp] and Epigrammita obscaena [60pp] plus Index Vocabularum [168pp]. Two armorial bookplates to front paste-down, a decorative gilt leather bookplate of Charles Rugge Price and the later bookplate of T. J. Phillips-Jodrell, Surgeon. The Rugge Price arms are also to the spine in gilt. Roman poet from Hispania (modern Spain) best known for his twelve books of Epigrams, published in Rome between AD 86 and 103, during the reigns of the emperors Domitian, Nerva and Trajan. In these short, witty poems he cheerfully satirises city life and the scandalous activities of his acquaintances, and romanticises his provincial upbringing..

Parisiis (Paris): Antonium Cellier, 1680. [28], 793, [3], 59, [1], 168pp. Full vellum, raised bands, spine in seven panels, title in ink to second panel, covers with central arabesque inside a two line panel with fleuron corner pieces inside a double fillet border. Small amount of loss to first panel, some creasing and browning to spine, covers slightly splayed. Internally slightly browned and very lightly dust-stained to edges. Previous owners bookplate to front pastedown and another name to title page. Additional engraved title. Usual attractive Delphin edition. Brunet III:1492, Schweiger 599. First Edition. Full Vellum. Good. 4to.
