Original publisher's pictorial full yellow cloth binding decorated and lettered in gilt and black. Cover depicts various religious imagery from the Historical Buddha to dragons and ornate pillar with elephants. Spine lettered in gilt and black and decorated with a gilt image of a seemingly godly man sitting in a chair. All edges gilt. Cover gilt bright but boards slightly damp-stained. Spine soiled and but gilt bright. Some wear to base and head of spine. Corners fraying. Front hinge cracked. Some pages mildly damp-stained. Hardbound. Very Good. Frank S. Dobbins, (1855-1916). Samuel Wells Williams (1812-1884) was a linguist, official, missionary and Sinologist from the U.S. in the early 19th century. Isaac Hollister Hall (1837-1896) was an American Orientalist. NW63.
