The author was a crewmember of a B-24 Flying Fortress in July 1943 that was shot down by German fighter planes off the coast of France with the author being the only crewmember not captured by German forces. Rescued by friendly French civilians, he was given new clothes and began a walk through the Pyrenees from France to Spain. A tale of daring and adventure and dogged determination.
