Edinburgh: Mundell & Son. Poor with no dust jacket. 1798. Hardcover. Cracks at spines and slight wear at corner edges. Front cover of Volume I and front cover, endpages, and title page of Volume III are loose, while front cover of Volume II is heavily cracked and nearly loose. Back cover of Volume III is also nearly loose. Pages are slightly browned, with a bit of light staining. Bookplate on inside front cover pages, also with owner's name written in ink above. .

Synopsis

An Essay Concerning Human Understanding is one of John Locke's two most famous works, the other being his Second Treatise on Civil Government. First appearing in 1690, the essay concerns the foundation of human knowledge and understanding. He describes the mind at birth as a blank slate (tabula rasa, although he did not use those actual words) filled later through experience.
