The 1852 edition of Jacob Abbott's The History of Romulus, part of the Abbott's Histories series. Red cloth, blindstamped on both front and back. Gilt on spine. Famed full-color frontispiece is intact, as is tipped-in protective tissue. All eighteen B&W engravings are intact (five of them plates), including frontispiece.Spine is discolored and darker than rest of jacket, with significant wear on top. Cracking on both top hinges and fraying near bottom hinge. Bumping and fraying on corners. Pages are age tanned and have small stains. Endpapers are stained and have small writing. Cracking at 98-99.

Cover is disbound for three inches at the top front cover. From there on all pages are bound well, none missing, and really in pretty good condition. Pages are crisp and clean. It's a First Edition, thus the still high-end price for a collector's item. Someone adept at re-binding can have themselves a wonderful book after a little attention. Bound in modern quarter brown cloth with brown patterned paper boards. The edges of the leaves are untrimmed and ragged. The interior displays some marginal soiling and wear with occasional chipping and corner creasing. A tear on the lower part of page 19 is professionally and neatly sealed. The upper corner to the final leaf of the index is chipped/torn perhaps affecting a few numbers or letters. The imprint statement on the title page contains some rubbing which obstructs two letters in the word "typographia." A few brief instances of marginalia are written in a miniscule old hand.
