New York: Reynal & Hitchcock, 1945. 8vo size clothbound hardcover; 72 pages Karl Shapiro (1913 - 2000) was an American poet. Among his many significant awards are the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry (won while serving in the military in World War II) and the Bollingen Prize in Poetry. He was the United States Poet Laureate in 1946-1947. Essay on Rime, a long poem, is one of his earlier works. Bumped head and heel of spine; some soil to covers with spotting on back cover; toned pages; several pages have light wrinkles and small foxing; small foxing on inside covers and endpapers; owners name on fep. . Cloth. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
