This biographical gallery of the worlds' most important scientific thinkers encompasses the overthrow of prescientific dogmas and superstitions and the battle against ignorance waged by Copernicus, Kepler, Galileo, Vesalius, Newton and Harvey, and then focuses on the naturalists of the 18th and 19th centuries, those far seeing men who laid the foundations of natural history as we know it today." Jacket has sunned spine, chipping to top and bottom of spine and two tears on front of jacket, small area of shelf soil and some light foxing on bottom of book; faded red topstain.
